Hi Steve,
Amazoy Zoysia is more tolerant to pet urine and feces than most grasses. However, no grass will survive prolonged or constant exposure to pet wastes. Pets should be kept off of the new plugs for at least 30 days in order for the plugs to become established. After the plugs are established, you can minimize the effects of pet wastes by periodically liming the soil in order to restore the pH level to an acceptable range between 6 and 7.

Hi Robert,
If the zoysia is dormant Round-Up should not harm the grass. If the grass is not dormant, green in color, then Round-Up can kill it.

Hi Rick,
Unfortunately, what would kill the wild bermuda will also kill your zoysia grass. Hand pulling the bermuda is about the only way to kill the bermuda without harming the zoysia. If you mositen the area before pulling, this will help you get more of the roots out. If you are very careful, you can spray the indiviual bermuda plants with a weed killer, like Round-Up, however if any gets on your zoysia grass it will also kill it.

Thanks. I will just have to keep replugging and try to maintain a healthy lawn. Hard to do when there is no known cure. More shrubs and less lawn may be the answer!?

Hi Ed,
This is a tough one, there is no practical management strategies for ground pearls. The best way to compete with these pests is by adjusting fertilization, watering and mowing schedules to promote vigorous plant growth. Raising cutting heights to at least 1.5 inches. By reducing the stress on the grass and enchance the vigor of the grass you could possilby reduce the amount of damage.

Hi Ed,
If the area is thin or bare, you can either replug the area or since zoysia grass is a spreading grass it will mend itself over time. Be sure to treat the area for these pest or they will keep eating the roots of your grass and continue to destroy it.
